Job Description

Maintenance Mechanic


Performs various plant maintenanceand engineering tasks, effectively meeting the plant standards for downtime,safety, performance and quality.


Thisposition is responsible for duties such as,

Essential Job Functions


  • Monitors equipment functions and performs scheduled preventative maintenance

  • Diagnoses equipment and machinery failures or problems and take corrective action with minimal supervision

  • Performs basic electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic repairs and adjustment

  • Assist Class C mechanics as needed

  • Utilize work jobs, breakdown report, work orders, and preventative maintenance logs

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair PF silos.

  • Performs fabrication of equipment used for processing and packaging.

  • Assist in the installation of new plant equipment

  • Assist production personnel with mechanical, electrical or other operational problems on any plant equipment.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and lubrication on production machinery and other plant equipment and facilities in accordance with the preventative maintenance program as assigned.

  • Perform and properly complete Lock Out/ Tag Out and Hot Work Tickets as needed.


Food Safety Responsibilities


  • All employees are required to immediately report and assist in the elimination or control of any food safety issues they observe to their supervisor

  • Monitors and enforces cGMPs

  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices and Pre-requisite programs


Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities


  • Education and Certification Requirements:

    • Forklift certified

    • 3 to 5 years of related experience food production line equipment maintenance

    • Welding, Soldering and fabrication knowledge

  • Language Requirement:

    • Ability to understand written and oral direction in English and/or Spanish.

  • Physical Requirement:

    • Frequently lift and carry 10-50 lbs.

    • Occasionally lift and carry 51-100 lbs.

    • Ability to occasionally climb an industrial ladder

    • Regularly lift, stand, walk, and use hands to fingers

Job Requirements

Essential JobFunctions

  • Trains and oversees maintenance mechanics regarding proper set up practices

  • Manages Class B and Class C mechanics as needed

  • Utilize work jobs, breakdown report, work orders, and preventative maintenance logs

  • Understand and direct the implementation of the preventative maintenance program

  • Maintains work logs, work orders, P.M. sheets, breakdown reports and can take corrective action when needed

  • Responsible for diagnosing equipment failures and machinery issues; takes corrective action to restore equipment back to safe operating conditions

  • Capable of handling a complete plant startup, critical machines are the spiral P.M. and engine refrigeration rooms.

  • Operate and maintain all plant equipment in proper operating order

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the silos

  • Monitors equipment maintenance and performs scheduled preventative maintenance

  • Manages the organization of parts and supplies

  • Performs fabrication of equipment used for processing and packaging

  • Set up and teardown equipment as needed for repairs

  • Assist with the installation of new equipment.

  • Perform advanced electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic repairs, installations and adjustments

  • Assist production personnel with mechanical, electrical or other operational problems on any plant equipment. Repair broken or defective equipment as needed.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and lubrication on production machinery and other plant equipment and facilities in accordance with the preventative maintenance program as assigned.

  • Perform and properly complete Lock Out/ Tag Out and Hot Work Tickets as needed.

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical distribution systems..


    2.         Advanced knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and circuit repair.


    3.         Ability to read electrical and pneumatic schematics. 


    4.         Ability to read equipment prints.


    5.         Advanced knowledge of processing and packaging equipment.


    6.         Advanced knowledge of facility equipment.


    7.         Knowledge of troubleshooting and repair techniques for liquid level and temperature sensors.


    8.         Knowledge of simple machine shop skills.


    9.         Knowledge of simple welding skills.


    10.       Accurately fills out all required paperwork.


    11.       •Ability to work with little supervision.


    12.       •Good communication and interpersonal skills.


    13.       •Excellent computer skills required.


    14.       •Variable frequency drive proficiency (Allen Bradley Powerflex).


    15.       •AC/DC motor troubleshooting experience required.


    16.       •Electrical controls maintenance and repair proficiency.


    17.       •PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen Bradley) preferred.


    18.       •Ability to think logically, analytically and solve problems.


    19.       •Ability to read and update electrical schematics.


    20.       •Strong multitasking abilities.


    21.       •Ability to function in a fast paced environment.


    22.       •Servo motor/controls knowledge a plus.



    Five-years minimum experience in a service or manufacturing environment.  Strong knowledge (operation and maintenance) of processing, packaging and associated experience. Advanced skills and understanding of equipment with computerized/electronic systems. Able to perform advanced troubleshooting of these types of systems, and accurately, intelligently communicate problems or malfunctions to service technicians, supervisors, vendors or others involved in the operation or maintenance of the equipment. Must have an advanced understanding of electrical systems and electronics. Must be able to work independently and without supervision.
