Job Description

General Functions:


Prepare accurately and timely multi-state sales tax returns with the proper backup supporting the reported exempt sale.  This includes all of the US states, certain localities within the US, and Canadian Federal and provinces. The position requires knowledge of all states and provincial sales tax rules.  Must have knowledge in each state's customer and product tax-ability regulations and be able to keep abreast of new and changing tax regulations. 




 Duties:


1. Preparation of monthly and quarterly sales tax returns from sales journals under limited supervision. Proficiency and complete understanding of the following software applications: Excel, word processing, (CIS), CIM, and sales tax software (OneSource).  Ability to utilize sale tax software to accurately transfer sales information into sales tax returns, reconcile and review final return. 


2. Review all exempt sales and products for compliance with state regulations.  


3. Gather and review all sales invoices, reports, and exempt documents for auditor. 


4. Perform all tax maintenance functions on billing system for exempt/non exempt customers and product tax-ability.


5. Analyze sales tax adjustment report and bad debt write-offs to determine which amounts can be recovered.  All sales tax written off is reviewed to determine if it can be recovered. Prepare various journal entries as needed. 


6. Research various sales tax regulations/laws through our internet based research library.


7.Prepare all annual reports and miscellaneous filings as required by secretary of state and other agencies.







 

Job Requirements

 Experience and education requirements:


 *5+ years experience.


1. Minimum of two years of college; college degree a plus. High school graduation or equivalent.


2. Must have two years experience in multi-state sales tax filings and ability to work  independently.  (STRONG BOOKKEEPER EXPERIENCE).


3. Requires knowledge and familiarity with personal computers and billing software.  Proficiency with Excel and Word is required and experience in OneSource software is desired.


4. Ability to type accurately is required. Must be able to operate a 10-key by touch.


5. Must be able to handle deadlines and be conscience with details.
