Summary:

Directs, coordinates and executes the activities of the organization’s financial planning and Generally-Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements goals, policies, procedures, controls and tax strategies relating to financial management, accounting, budget, cost accounting and payroll.
  • Directs the maintenance of general ledgers, accounts receivable/payable, revenue distribution, costs, depreciation, property, operating expenses and insurance records.
  • Prepares monthly and annual reports, which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Ensures that effective internal controls are in place and ensures compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Develops and maintains cost accounting system including annual review of overhead rates.
  • Analyzes actual manufacturing costs by selected segments and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials and manufacturing methods to determine effects on costs.
  • Prepares and coordinates the annual budget and subsequent monthly reporting.
  • Provides management with timely reports and metrics of organization’s financial status and progress.
  • Collects and analyzes data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor.
  • Provides input on cost elements of new business quotes and make/buy decisions.
  • Generates reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products.
  • Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
  • Analyzes capital equipment purchase/disposal/obsolescence to optimize use of assets.
  • Educates the management team in financial concepts and provides regular feedback regarding adherence to budgets.
  • Coordinates company’s risk management program to ensure insurance coverage protects against property losses and potential liabilities.
  • Establishes and manages budgetary requirements for outside accounting services. Provides tax-ready reporting to minimize outside accounting costs.
  • Establishes relationships with banks and other financial institutions to ensure optimal cash and credit position.
  • Supervises accounting staff.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or equivalent experience required.
  • At least five years financial management experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Cost Accounting Experience

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to internal customers (senior management and/or shop floor personnel) and external customers (auditors and/or bank representatives).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Extensive experience with ERP systems and accounting software packages.
